The geisha of Yoshiwara Okiya, are a SL performance group based at the Japanese RP and cultural sim of Little Yoshiwara in Milarepa Region. Since 2007 the Yoshiwara Okiya geisha have performed each week either on their home stage at Little Yoshiwara, or by request at off-sim SL venues. The geisha also regularly play host to guests at their home ochaya (tea house), and also provide entertainment at private functions.

Yoshiwara Okiya is an RP geisha school, and is modelled upon RL geisha schools in Japan with defined ranks indicating each geisha’s level of experience. The training of our geisha requires many, many months of schooling, not only in the classroom with classes on various aspects of geisha culture, but also in stagecraft, performance and role-play skills necessary to entertain our patrons both on stage and in the tea house.

The Okiya’s regular performances present an entertaining combination of Japanese music, dance, and storytelling to sooth the spirit and stimulate the mind. Like the sakura blossoms, each performance (and its audience) is a vibrant but ephemeral shared event that can never be repeated, but draws together all those who shared a special fleeting moment in time.
