Facebook is bouncing with Second Life users upset at the recent changes Flickr has made to free accounts. Free Flickr accounts can now only hold 1000 images. If there are more images than that in your free account those extra images will be deleted. This is quite scary for many. I see hundreds of SL users looking for alternate image hosting.
Honestly I can’t find any other hosting that is comparable to Flickr. Some people are deleting older images they made to make room for their newer things right now as I write this. You can see what flickr is saying here.. flickr

Flickrs Pro account is $30.00 off for the first year so you can have it for $20.00. But this is not good enough for some SL residents. I am wrapping my head around this small percentage of people who can’t afford something they have been doing and using for years and years building up many thousands of images to their accounts. It’s a lovely pass time and hobby to make pictures from SL. I get that. I also get the fact that many can’t afford 49.99 a year after the promotion period. But come on….
How much does one spend on coffee a month? How about fatpacks in SL? How about eating out in real life? How much do you spend on cigarettes? or soda? I could make a whole long list of things we pay for without even thinking about it. So some are crying over 49.99 a year? really? FFS. This is my personal opinion I know this but I am just thinking it all through and trying to understand why people are whining about this when Flickr is a business that we all are using for free for so long…. and now some of us are upset that we need to pay in a little… really.
I think this will weed out a lot of SL users who post numerous SLex pics and porn to be honest. Or else they will just keep deleting old ones who knows but maybe some of the riff raff will be gone who are flickr SL griefers…. get what I am saying? All those relentless meanies on flickr who think they are SL flickr gods… LOLOL…
Maybe if you want to be a Mean SL Flickr God who points the finger at others all the time you will now have to PAY FOR IT. Here is what I say… JUST GO PRO and calm down. Don’t be a clown! If you love flickr and use it all the time for years and years, using the free service for so long….. don’t you deserve to go pro anyway??
I was working out the costs of the Flickr Pro subscription (as far as the UK goes) and you can pay monthly – split up the payments. Doing it this way, a monthly payment is a third of the price of a packet of 20 cigarettes and much, much less than one round of drinks.
