When is a Dress Code Taken Too Far? A Jazz Club in Second Life

Please click this image to see it larger. Kaithleen’s Carina Dress at Fetish Fair 2019.
I made the pose myself 🙂

I was really upset tonight. I dressed up and went to (not naming the Jazz club). I wore this. This gown is about 10% sheer so I put on the panties and went. Since they could barely see my nipple through it they asked me to change. As soon as I walked in they took an awful image that was really bright and bad and showed me my nipple through the gown. So I left. This gown is stunning and has extra dainty glitter that sparkles as well as being ever so barely sheer… I played it safe and put on the panties that came with the demo…. well I was still asked to change dresses.

I bought this gown in 3 colors peach, black and the dainty light blue. I am in love with it. Said Jazz Club can kiss my ever loving…. bleeeeeeeeep…… They are far too strict and treat the women like they walk into a meat market looking for men and we should totally cover up. I am sorry…. I was covered up. I think I am too fancy and good for that place….. bye……… If it weren’t for the group fee being so high I would leave the group and never go back.

Update: Since posting this blog after wearing that lovely gown… after the attention this blog has created, lighting all the unfair business practices this venue has done to others…. I have been banned from all 3 sims. This is no great loss. Thanks Franks Elite Jazz -FEG for proving once again that prejudice, harassment, hostility towards other beautiful women, unfair rules being strictly enforced depending on the whims and moods of the staff that arrogance, hostility and bad taste knows no bounds in the world of Second Life.

Side note:  There is no TOS that makes the sim owners accountable for an avatars attire. Its the avatar who will be spoken to by LL not the sim owner. Also, Its a rated M moderate sim so what I had on was within the TOS. Its down to the rules of the venue the RP so to speak. Even by the stated rules to follow I was within them. They told me the skirt was fine with the panties. The top that was 90-95% solid was the issue because they could perve me close which is against TOS privacy to check me .. its called upskirting so to speak to find something invading privacy to look through the top of the dress to see my nipple. This breaking TOS is on the venue not me. thanks though.

  1. Some clubs can be intrusive in how they dictate women dress. A few years ago I went to a rock club to join my Mistress. Someone working for admin at that club had cammed under my skirt. She had to have been to know I was no wearing panties as it was not a revealing skirt at all. She told me that I was disgusting yet she was the person who was camming to see if other women were wearing panties or not.

    1. yes. The last time I went to this particular club they cammed me up my hooha inside the slit.. it was Blueberry Arriana gown and they cammed perved me to see the panties and took a pick and told me to leave . So this time they cammed real close and took a bright pic badly to see the nipple and told me to change. I think they are jealous of a beautiful avatar showing up and looking better than them honestly.

      1. Tell them that if they want to look at your vulva and inside your vagina, it would be polite to ask but the answer would be no.

Seeing some of these comments, and being a GM at a moderate club, i will leave this for you people so you can understand something.
linden lab has rules, they enforce these rules, if you go into a pg or moderate club, we being GM’s and or owners, and or managers, have to enforce LL’s rules, so not like i like checking to see if someone is wearing panties, or their dress is see through, but if i see it and say nothing and LL rep comes in on an avi and sees it, ya can bet ya the owners will hear about it and can have their clubs shut down. this being said, we dont like having to enforce said rules, but we have to, you should have checked to see if its a moderate club, or a pg club. cause if it was adult no one would have cared. so while ya bashing people that have to enforce said rules, us that own clubs or are part owner are spending our time and lindens and money to make our vision a reality, also you dont like the rules complain to LL, they are the ones that tell us what we have to enforce.

      2. If you are looking up dressed and skirts that requires being cammed because it’s the only way of seeing what a woman is wearing, then you’re a disgusting pervert who is upskirting. Which club do you work at so I can avoid it?

I told my girl Chris about this and she immediately said “sounds like Franks”. She got denied entry for having a skirt above the knee.

      6. For some clubs a skirt above the knee does not match a club’s atmosphere. You don’t dance a waltz in a mini skirt themed event. Peeking in through the clothing someone is wearing is too much.

      7. I need to call you out on your lies and yes, I am calling you a liar to explain your perversion or seeking to upset people.

Were LL to find someone breaking LL rules, they would respond with the holder of the avatar’s account, not the owner of the club or parcel owner.

The behaviour which you admit to being part of is called upskirting. In some countries, upskirting is a criminal offence. Nobody walks up to a woman in any establishment and lift her skirt or dress up to inspect her underwear or lack of.

So again, tell us here who you are in Second Life and the clubs etc you are involved with so we can avoid those misogynists.

@DRDUH Can you point to the LL ToS section that makes sim owners responsible for this?
Someone I know commented off-site specifically about your comment here: “Sounds like nonsense. If LL come into an area and find somebody walking around without parts fully covered/alpha’d then that individual is likely to be warned for breach of ToS, not the parcel owner (unless they were promoting nudity/sex on a General parcel).”

      9. @DrDuh: M rated sim. Also, I would like to see the TOS you speak of in regards to this particular gown and my particular avatar who is in the SL upscale fashion and art scene who works for a lovely high fashion designer. This gown in question is by another designer who makes lovely things… If you actually read my blog post you would see exactly what happened and how it happened… TOS please…. I actually know a couple Lindens …. Most people don’t see an issue with this gown in a MODERATE rated (adult only RP) sim. Yes sim owners make their own rules I can respect that… but it is not right to do what they did to make one feel a bit violated and disrespected, made to feel like a whore or some kind of trash. Yes it was done in a sort of polite way but the outcome is still the same…. smh….. lol…..

DRDUH, you’ve not read LL terms of service, community standards, or its guidelines on sim ratings carefully. Complete nudity or even sexual acts between adult account holders is permissible on a moderate sim. There is no such thing as a PG sim in Linden Labs parlance. Now, those who control a sim or parcel can set their own guidelines as long as they fall within terms of service and community standards. Linden Labs has been fairly liberal in allowing tier payers to set those guidelines, although one could argue that harassing a women for the clothes they choose to wear is violating TOS and community standards. If a business involves “adult” activities and it plans collect lindens, the operators will need to set that business up on an adult sim.

DrDooDoo is objectively wrong and on a power trip. Ignorance, stupidity plus a bad character is a very dangerous mix. It’s those peope who should never ever even dream about taking on a moderator/bouncer job in any SL sim … but they are obviously the majority of people manning those jobs. 😦

      12. AJ says:

DrDuh, I would suggest to you that, in the end, it’s not the sim rating causing sour grapes and bad publicity for clubs – it’s club owners and the grubby mentality of some of the individuals they employ.

There are those who love nothing more than abusing their silly little ‘powers’ and camming up an avi’s skirts/down their blouses (dirty old men and desperate teens, for a start); in other words, getting their cheap jollies before beginning an argument with female patrons and ejecting them once they’ve had their ‘fun’ at a patron’s expense.

Most, however, are logical and reasonable, just as 99% of patrons are logical and reasonable. There are, however, as many different interpretations of what constitutes an M-rating as there are people in SL.

It’s all in the translation – and this conversation has been done to death since the dawn of time.

Yes, LL has ‘rules’ and if they want them enforced irrationally, illogically, randomly and inconsistently, then by all means, leave things as they stand. If LL wants said rules enforced, then my suggestion would be that perhaps LL ought to be responsible for enforcement themselves, not thrust the responsibility upon club owners. Too many chiefs, you see…

I personally know of two of SL’s biggest and most popular 80’s style clubs who’ve been in competition with each other for years; one is far more reasonable and relaxed (and therefore has consistently higher numbers of very happy patrons on a 24/7 basis); the other behaves like an obsessed infestation of rabid puritans who’ve not yet had the broom handles surgically removed from their Khyber Pass, going so far as to actually use their cameras to ‘get a better look’ at what can’t be seen in ‘normal’ conditions (ie: forcing their cams where they shouldn’t be in the first place).

Perhaps a better suggestion to LL might be the removal of the ‘M’ rating entirely from SL, leaving only two: G and A. That would soon sort the wheat from the chaff.

I do believe I know which club you are referring to, and I have to agree. They are ridiculous when it comes to the dress code. I was there once, I had on a beautiful very appropriate shorter mesh gown. No deep cleavage, gorgeous details to it but it came to just above my knee, I was still asked to change. I asked them why and they said I could either change or I could leave, that was their policy. I looked around the room at 90 percent of the people wearing flexiprim dresses from 2008 and went on my merry way never looking back again.

    1. orcaflotta says:

Of course is a gown ending above the knee not the proper attire! I mean how could you break the immersion effect in such a way? And depending on how strongly the staff enforces their dress code policies, they were right to warn you/ask you to dress differently. OTOH is the year a dress was made in not important at all. You just don’t attend a ball in overknee skirts, you just don’t!

I still wear flexi prims since they are more feminine and elegant than today’s stiff “concrete” meshes. They only look nice in photos but are an unsightly mess in daily life.

  9. Amanda, one more thing- in a virtual world which allowed designers called Stroker Serpentine to give online talks about virtual sex and where to buy virtual orgasmic organs, this is so insane. Now maybe if you were in virtual church ok! lol

    1. They should open up their own Church Cult. LOLOL…. Yes it’s SL. They have their own RP I guess but they don’t follow it 100% will all. Only on whims and showing favoritism and prejudice and general polite hostility. They have a history of weird things they have done to the general populace of SL… I could make a list from what people say… I think I will.

im sorry if they are worried about the sheer of a dress then they should more so worry about those who come into a please without even wearing panties even if they arent wearing a sheer dress just saying there is alot of people who do that yet they get mad over someone wearing panties and edit their wind light setting and everything to see a bit of a nip showing that is just retarded that they would have to go that far to prove a point and if you have to go that far to prove a point then that is doing way to much and if you dont want someone wearing sheer clothing say it in rule on your land otherwise grow up and stop being a pervert and up skirting people unless it turns you on then that is disgusting and sick you have to violate someone to get your rocks off but i would so wear a dress like that without panties but i dont go to frank’s anyways to many stuck peeps around there i went there once and i wore a dress that even alphaed my body out and everything but because it had a big skirt they told me to change so i left and havent been back since

    I’ve been to Frank’s. I wasn’t impressed.

That said, on moderate SIMs, full nudity is allowed, though explicit sexual behavior is not allowed in public. Making a point of looking into another avatar’s clothing to see if they’re wearing something under it or altering your own sunlight settings to make their clothing translucent IS a reportable violation of TOS. Unless you’re doing a dance that had you standing on your hands with your legs spread or dropping onto your back – again legs spread, nobody should see what’s under your skirt unless they make a point to upskirt. At which point, you are within your rights to report THEM. In your shoes, I’d report the avatar who took the picture and pass it and their comments to LL. What happened here is harassment.
